Catch and Release Practice

At Sexy Loops Fly Fishing, we champion the practice of catch and release, a gesture of respect toward our fishery and its sustainability. However, we also respect the personal choices of our customers who have different views and would like to keep a fish or two.

Should you decide to harvest your fish, we also believe it is yours to clean and dress. Please be prepared with knives & baggies, or to have it processed by one of the local fish cleaners when available. Under no circumstances do we promote meat hauls.

BUY A TEXAS SALTWATER

FISHING LICENSE

Embarking on your fly fishing adventure starts with ensuring you're legally equipped. Texas mandates a Saltwater Fishing License for anyone engaging in fly fishing. To facilitate a smooth start to your trip, we check all licenses at the dock. Avoid last-minute hassles by securing your license at local tackle shops or easily online.

For detailed information on license purchase requirements or to purchase your license directly, please visit the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.

PRACTICE BEFORE YOUR TRIP

With the growing popularity of saltwater fly fishing, I am seeing more and more "first-timers" wanting to explore the sport. One of my greatest joys is putting a new saltwater fly fisher on their first redfish. The smiles, high-fives, and fist bumps NEVER get old! I truly want all my clients to catch fish—but for the newbies to the sport, your odds at hooking up will increase DRAMATICALLY if you have the means to do a little backyard casting practice before your big day on the water—or better yet; a basic lesson at your local fly shop. None of this is absolutely necessary, but it will increase your odds for success.

Everybody loves being able to shoot 80-100 feet of fly line and if you can do that accurately (inside a hula-hoop) that's awesome—but the truth is that, by far, most of our shots are 20, 30, & 40ft off the bow. Practice and get accurate at your 20, 30, & 40ft shots and leave your long shots for your bone fish and permit trips. We can learn on the water together too, if that's what we need to do—I'm happy to spend time teaching and practicing while we are out.
